National Scholarship Program supports leading scholars at leading higher education institutions who are writing memoirs on United States politics with an emphasis on historical and institutional analysis of politics, law and order, and foreign relations. National scholars have the opportunity to network and become part of the University of Virginia's interdisciplinary community of world-class scholars, fellows and professors from the Jefferson Scholars Foundation.

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Scholarship offers recipients the following benefits:

Jefferson Scholars Foundation National Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

An applicant must be a Ph.D. candidate who is expected to complete their thesis by the end of the fellowship year.

This is not a post-doctoral fellowship. Non-U.S. citizens are eligible to apply.

Each Fellow is required to participate in two conferences, one in the fall and one in the spring.

The spring conference, in particular, provides an opportunity to receive feedback from mentors who are also in attendance.

The Jefferson Scholars Foundation will pay for both lectures.

With the exception of the Jefferson Scholars/Hagley Library Scholars, scholars who elect to reside will receive an additional $1,500 stipend in lieu of scholar travel and accommodation for Spring and Fall conferences.

Letters of recommendation are initiated through the application process or may be sent to the Selection Board at nationalfellows@jeffersonscholars.org. other participants in the research network. Galambos grantees may choose to continue their networking activities at the foundation in Charlottesville, at the Hagley Library in Wilmington, or a combination of both

Subsequent networking activities may take place at the mentor's facility or in special sessions of academic meetings (symposia, academic conferences, etc. All grantees, whether residents in Hagley or visiting the Foundation, will attend summer boot camps to develop advanced leadership skills.

Requirements

The candidate must be a doctor. a candidate who expects to complete the thesis by the end of the fellowship year or who has submitted a detailed and achievable two-year writing plan that is convincingly documented. This is not a PhD scholarship. not at. Citizens of S. are eligible to apply. Each grantee will work with the mentor to build a network of scholars focused on their research area and addressing relevant policy issues. Meeting in the U.V., or Hagley for Galambos Fellow in the fall, will establish a year-round program to collaborate and recruit additional network members who can then meet for virtual reading groups, workshops, conferences, symposiums, manuscript workshops, or similar activities. Expenses for network events and activities are paid for by a dedicated budget for each Fellow.
